Best of Show / Annual Reports / Brochures / Editorial / EnvironmentalInvitations / Logos / Miscellaneous / Packaging / Posters / Student Work / 3D Garage ArtThe Europe 2020 mural was created to celebrate the future of a united Europe and to mark the occasion of two important events: the 1,000-year anniversary of the Slovenian city of Bled and the joining of Slovenia and nine other countries with the European Union. The text of the mural reads: "If speech develops in time and writing in space, then new times need new writers." Judge Jenn Visocky O'Grady describes the project as "a modern interpretation of Bauhaus traditions." Not surprisingly, the mural's creator, Eduard Cehovin, says he's big fan of avant-garde design from 1920 to 1935. "Written horizontally," he says, "the text of the mural forms an abstract pattern that symbolizes a mélange of languages, cultures, traditions and religions of the nations of Europe." Designer Eduard Cehovin based the mural on the typeface Van Doesburg. The mural has now been declared a part of the permanent art collection of the Bled School of Management. Cehovin says he thinks of the mural as a futuristic European flag.
