It seems like handcrafted beverages are popping up everywhere, especially as the Maker movement (or whatever you want to call it) and the move for more and more folks to get their hands dirty continues to grow. Brooklyn Gin is a passion project that grew out of founder Joe Santo’s dream in 2009 when he started his NYC-based line of beverages. But to get that gin out of its creators loving hands and into the glasses of customers, Santos turned to Spring Design Partners to create the brand’s identity and package design. This project has won several awards, including the HOW International Awards, among others.
To capture the “locally-produced, hand-crafted spirits,” the design firm focused on the energy and vibe of Brooklyn and the “DIY movement.” The design and colors capture the “gritty” feel, and they found inspiration for the bottle in the “apothecary origins of gin.”
The attention and awards that this project has garnered show how effective a great packaging desigh along with an interesting story can be. Not to mention that a well-thought out strategy coupled with a strong product and a great design aesthetic helped make this so successful.
