A very common stylistic trend in web designs is the use of subtle repeating patterns. Most often, they are lightly textured and many of them look like fabric (think: corduroy, linen, woven nylon).
Here are two websites that offer free patterns and textures that you can use in your interactive design work:
Created by a web designer and developer named Zan, Minimal Patterns offers background images that resemble really cool auto upholstery: mostly dark colors and a subtle woven or striped texture.
Interactive designer Atle Mo shares a great library of subtle background textures ranging from Escher-esque repeating motifs to gray denim and fishscale patterns.
