2011 HOW Poster Design Award Gallery

Categories: Competition Galleries, Poster Design Awards.

HOW’s Poster Design Awards aims to spotlight the best work from around the globe. From nearly 800 entries, judge Robynne Raye, Modern Dog Design Co. co-founder, selected the top 10 winners (presented in no particular order).

We asked Robynne if it was difficult to narrow it down to the winning 10, or if the top winners were easy to pick out of the crowd: “It was easy to narrow it down to about 70. Picking the top 10 was extremely hard because so many great posters had to be cut. This was by far the hardest competition I’ve ever judged. I spent weeks agonizing over it!” she says.

What do you look for in an effective poster?
“Posters are cultural artifacts that document a specific time and place. I’m attracted to posters that I want to hang on my wall, or maybe more importantly, the ones that would stop me as I walked down a street” Robynne says.

Poster judge Robynne Raye is co-founder of Seattle-based Modern Dog Design Co. For more than two decades, Robynne has lectured and taught workshops in both the U.S. and abroad. Her design work has been exhibited internationally and is in the archives of major libraries and in museum collections worldwide. She is co-author of “Modern Dog: 20 Years of Poster Art” (Chronicle Books, 2008) and the upcoming “Inside the World of Board Graphics: Skate, Surf, Snow” (Rockport Books, Fall 2011).

*Poster10 offer excludes drop ship items, Adobe and Wacom products, magazine subscriptions and the Design Insider Program. Expires 01/31/11.
