Pantone Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

Last week, we wrote about creatives’ speculations as to what the Pantone Color of the Year would be. Today, Pantone announced that the 2014 Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid 18-3224. According to their announcement on the TODAY show, Pantone didn’t even have a runner-up for this year’s choice.COY2014You’ve probably noticed orchid starting to emerge, especially in the fashion world, and, apparently, Keurig will be offering a coffee maker in this shade. So, we can expect to see pink and purple hues in all types of products of 2014. Described as a combination of fuchsia, purple and pink, this color bring just the right mix of energy, class and timelessness to your projects. And it’s a vastly different color than 2013’s Color of the Year – Emerald. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® explains their choice:

PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination. An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

As suggested on their website, Radiant Orchid will add a pop of color to more neutral tones for interior decorating, and I’m betting that some of you are already envisioning using it with black or gray (or yellows or a totally different color palette…ah!).  I’m hoping to see some sophisticated designs with this Color of the Year that you create and make my design-loving heart flutter.
