What do your peers do to break out of their creative ruts? Creative-thinking coach Tom Monahan polled graphic designers via the HOW website about what makes their creative juices flow freely. It may seem obvious but, hey, maybe “taking a nap” is just the advice you need to hear. Here are their suggestions:
- Listen to music.
- Look at art or photography.
- Spend time with children.
- Hang out with other designers.
- Dream.
- Read.
- Go for a drive.
- Break out of your routine.
- Walk away from your work and take a break.
- Exercise.
- Sleep.
- Visit a bookstore.
- Encourage others.
- Don’t work just for money.
- Switch to another project.
- Work on paper instead of the computer.
- Think like a child.
- Talk it out; don’t let ideas just rumble around in your head.
- Enjoy being creative.
