For years, I’d been dreaming about making a children’s book. And now that I have two girls of my own, the desire was greater than ever.
This project is an extension of a one-of-a-kind book I made for my nephew on his first birthday — back when I had extra time.
He’s now 9, and I finally found the perfect venue for the idea. I also conquered my inner demons when it came to doing illustration work.
“The Adventures of You and I” recognizes that all kids are unique — from their hair style and its color to the foods they eat or (more likely) don’t eat, to the clothes and shoes they wear, to the smell of their farts and the look of their boogers. They’re all different.
And they should have a book that is as unique as them. A book with their name on it. A book whose main character is them, with their hairstyle and skin color, with glasses or without glasses, and with their favorite color. “The Adventures of You and I” is that book—customized on demand to each kid, printed individually and hand-bound. A labor of love. Because each kid deserves it.
And so the reader takes each child through a series of adventures they can discover together, from a dragon birthday party, to swimming with the mermaids or roasting marshmallows on the sun, to the favorite place of all: the toy store.
