The best way to achieve website design success? Create an intuitive, user-friendly online experience that fits seamlessly with your brand. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Well, according to Bernadette Rivero and Nathan Strandberg, the web design world is a bit of a jungle. Allow me to explain: Rivero, president of Cortez Brothers creative development company, and Standberg, creative director and partner of Eight Hour Day design studio, have paired up twice to work on interactive projects.
On the first occasion, they met in Belize to shoot an interactive documentary about the collapse of the Mayan civilization and the mystery surrounding said collapse. Later, they completed additional work to find answers about the Peruvian Amazon’s vanishing jungles. The second collaboration involved developing a new website redesign for Cortez Brothers that would focus the brand. The new website also allows users to view 3,000+ videos and become familiar with the dynamic brand.
How do the two experiences relate? Working in the jungle gave Rivero and Strandberg some perspective on workflow and meeting tight deadlines in uncomfortable places. After all, Strandberg had to find a way to connect the intricate system of web page templates and vast amount of information, without alienating the user as she went from place to place. Strandberg’s solution includes image-driven menus and and large videos. According to a press release announcing the new site, website design success was achieved:
The redesign brings into focus The Cortez Brothers’ core brand element: a globally curated roster of cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary filmmakers spanning commercials, branded content, television and film. The simple, intuitive front-end design lets users navigate and access content quickly. The playful interface immediately interacts with the company’s latest and greatest work on the home page; large-scale images (actual stills from featured content) evoke an artful, cinematic mood. The color scheme is a continuation of the company’s signature black and white brand-palette. Accenting the interface’s stylishly minimal presence, pops of bright cyan lead the eye and add energy.
The result is an intuitive website that communicates and sells the Cortez Brothers brand to end users. If your website is in need of similar solutions, check out the Breakthrough Website Design Success course from HOW Design University.
