Web Design Education is a Simple Matter of Survival

apps3325Have you and/or your creative team registered to attend the HOW Interactive Design Conference in Chicago this November 5th – 7th? Hasn’t hit your radar yet, maybe. You might even be thinking that design and interactive are two separate entities.

They were until Android and iPhone manufacturers pushed Blackberry out of the market and made screens with images so highly pixelated that they look clearer than real life appears. Apps are now eating away at 20 percent of a consumers’ day.

As a designer, are you able to capture a piece of that time for your clients? Are you reaching out to your own potential clients via mobile marketing? What kind of web design education can you offer?

If you want to know how high the stakes have gotten, consider how 60secondmarketer.com narrows the perspective: “There are 6.8 billion people on the planet; 4 billion use a mobile phone; 3.5 billion use a toothbrush.”

Here’s another interesting statistic: “70 percent of mobile searches lead to an action within an hour,” says SMSmarketingnw.com. “It takes one month for the same percentage of desktop users to take action.”

The action taken is typically linking to a site, a site that needs a site designer. There is also advertising and SEO that needs to be considered as well as the designs for the social media banners, and apps — lots of apps.

But the most telling activity of all might be in how coveted our mobile phone and tablets have become to us. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, more than two-thirds (67%) of American cell phone owners “find themselves checking their phone for messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.”

Nearly half, (44%) “of cell owners have slept with their phone next to their bed because they wanted to make sure they didn’t miss any calls, text messages, or other updates during the night.”

And, almost one-third, (29%) “of cell owners describe their cell phone as “something they can’t imagine living without.”

Doesn’t that sound like something you need to be part of? Get involved! Sign up for HOW Interactive Design Conference before Monday, October 7th and get $100 off.
