Among the 80+ speakers on the program for HOW Design Live 2017 are a couple of handfuls of longtime repeat speakers. Always engaging, entertaining and informative, these recurring presenters bring new ideas and cover fresh ground every time they take the stage at HOW. They’re not just speakers, they’re enthusiastic supporters active participants, willing to share their experiences with anyone who approaches them in the HOW hallways. They’re family.
Among the repeat speakers on the agenda for next May in Chicago —
Justin Ahrens, who’s widely admired for lending his (and his team’s) design talents for worthwhile causes, will talk about how “Doing Good is Good for Business.” And again in 2017, Ahrens’s nonprofit supporting clean water for African families, Wheels4Water, will be on hand to raise funds at HOW Design Live. In 2015, the HOWie Community raised $18,000 for the charity.
Longtime HOW contributor, author, speaker and all-around collaborator Ilise Benun will again take the stage after working more behind the scenes in recent years. Her Get Better Clients Bootcamp promises to be an essential 4-hour deep dive into business development and client retention.
Andy Brenits and Ed Roberts, who’ve partnered to program the In-House Management track at recent HOW conferences, return as speakers. Catch Brenits’s “In-House Perspectives” session; Roberts will help creative pros who’ve suddenly found themselves in leadership positions with his presentation, “Just Promoted to Creative Director: Now What?”
HOW fave Sam Harrison is a naturally engaging speaker who brings smart insights and a sweet Southern drawl to his presentations on nurturing your creativity and selling your ideas. “Slay Your Zombies, Slash Your Zigzags, Show Your Zing” will not disappoint.
Best-selling HOW Books author Jim Krause steps away from the camera (his previous sessions on photography for designers were wildly popular) to talk about “Color for Designers & Illustrators.” Krause knows from color — his Color Index books have helped designers pick the perfect hues for more than a decade.
HOW Design Live Program Partner and one of the industry’s most influential people Debbie Millman will share a career’s worth of invaluable experience working with clients as part of the expert team presenting the pre-conference Get Better Clients Bootcamp.
It wouldn’t be HOW Design Live without Stefan Mumaw’s wild and wonderful HOW Connection event, where veteran attendees and newbies come together to have fun and find their tribe. Mumaw’s also on the agenda with a presentation, “How to Cheat: Creative Domination Through Villainy.”
Finally, a couple of speakers who’ve hit it out of the park in recent appearances will be back in 2017, including Pum Lefebure, Terri Trespicio and David Sherwin.
