NEWBIE ISSUE: Help with client?

Hello, I hope this is the right forum!

I am very new to freelancing and I have a potential client right now. I could use some help in dealing with him.

I made out a contract to do his work with two variations to choose from, and that he will pay me upon delivery. I also guaranteed up to two revisions after payment. This is all for a relatively low price.

The client responded with a change in contract that stated that he was ok with the contract if he had a right to tell me changes to be made (that I have to make) as often as necessary beforehand.


Now here's the problem: I have heard of designers that went into a contract like that. The client took all their work that they did, gave it to a cheaper designer as 'inspiration' to work with, and there was no 'final project' to be handed in and all their work was in vain.
I don't want to be one of them, and would like to know from more experienced freelancers how exactly they deal with this, I'll say, 'newbie' issue. He insists on a per-project payment because per-hour payment is something the accountant can't accept.

So, anyone out there to suggest?

3 rounds of revisions is pretty standard. Get a deposit to start as well. This way if the client can't be made to be happy, you keep the deposit. You do not get the whole amount, but at least you end up with some cash for your work.

3 revision is more than enough. I usually take 50% deposit. In my experience what i found client do not like color schemes. i give them ability to change the color scheme with few clicks. most of my client are happy to make the change by themselves.
