Hello fellow designers,
I'm stumped as to how to tackle this job and need a lifeline. I am digital aritst. A very prestigious (but independent/family-owned) retail store in my city wants me to create a mural. The wall is very, very large (exterior wall on side of bld). I have never painted anything this large by hand, let alone a mural. I gave them the option of a printed mural (like the kind you see on the sides of buildings now-a-days) and they liked the idea. I thought it was a great solution until I got a quote back from a local printer.
The vendor, who specializes in this type of outdoor wall decal printing/installing, quoted me something over 20K. I'm sure this is standard, but it is beyond anything I could've ever imagined. I simply cannot propose this price to my potential customer...they would find it outrageous (and that's not even counting my design fee!)
The original option would be to paint the mural myself. But not having any experience with mural painting whatsover, I cannot confidently promise to deliver a great result.
So, I'm stuck as to how to proceed. Part of me wonders if I should take the job at all. This would be to date, the most important project I've done. I would hate to walk away just to have another artist take the job. Please help! Thank you.
