Industry standard label development software

Postby Business Software Liaison » December 14th, 2012, 2:07 pm

I work for a large company (which must go unnamed for obvious reasons) that is constantly looking towards globalization. We have several household brands that are marketed in the states and abroad. As we begin to develop synergies between the different labeling groups we are running into a few anomalies that need to be ironed out. One wrinkle that we recently found is the use of different software to design packaging. To be specific, our group is currently using Adobe Illustrator for design and art production of mostly single-sided, single-paged artwork for cartons, sleeves, wrappers, and other commodity types. Our affiliates, however, have been using Adobe InDesign for the production of the same type of work. One of my job responsibilities is to maintain a pulse on the industry standards for software related solutions. As we head towards a discussion about switching our group over to InDesign, I wanted to do my due diligence and ask the members of our design industry for a common consensus. What Adobe application is best suited for this kind of art development? Please provide any reasons you have to support your response. If you see that others have already responded, please consider still responding, as I would appreciate a collection of responses that represent a vast portion of the design industry. When presenting my findings to my superiors, facts, differences, pros and cons will go much further than opinions. Thank you.
