Personal Logo

Postby a1mykoona » August 15th, 2009, 6:47 am

Hey everybody, I'm new here and I was wondering if I could get some perspective on my personal logo I created in a typography class. Faced with creating a unique stamp that represents myself as a graphic designer, I fused the 'A' and the 'r' of my initials to create the form of a budding tree, and with the image of the leaf, it reinforces this design. I was going for something simple, refreshing, and something that signified the process of growth- growth of the client's business and of our partnership. The font i chose for my name was 'Coolvetica", I thought it grounded and balanced the logo and was a bit funky, which I enjoyed.

Tell me what you think- the good, the bad, and the ugly! Thanks alot!

This is interesting. You make good use of type. However, I think you could find a less common concept. Did you sketch ideas? If yes, post them. It's always great to see the creative process. If you didn't sketch, I suggest you do. Sketch 50 or so different ideas. Not just variations but separate ideas. I think you'll see the benefits... Good luck!

I think doing something like this might be worth exploring:

Yeah I made like 5 pages worth of sketches, but they were mostly crap, I would upload them but I don't have an accessible scanner with me. Thanks for the critique, I think I can take myself conceptually further as well.

Aibrean,

For the original logo, one of the stipulations was that we had to have our full name in to logo, but now that the class is over, I think you brought up a really cool way to introduce myself with the logo that I probably would have never thought of! Thanks very much!

For the concept of growth, there are many other more interesting facets to explore then a literal leaf growing.

I agree that you could develop this more and have a pretty strong portfolio piece. This is not a bad start but remember that your personal logo reflects on your design style. Is this a reflection of your style?

It looks pretty good, which tools did you use to create this logo? For a beginner you should focus more simple designs, don't go for complicated ones. Happy designing :)

This looks really good, very unique. And I like how you related it to your philosophy. Not a lot of graphic artists do that nowadays.

just make the leaf less prominent and see how that looks. It's overbearing on the logo.
