Chicago Eats

Postby BurritoWoman » January 27th, 2011, 3:46 pm

I don't know if you guys know this, but I'm a big ol' foodie. I was thinking we could post some good places in Chi-Town to grab some delicious food and perhaps plan a meet up or two.

I've heard good things about the churros and hot chocolate and other Mexican street foods at Rick Bayless' Xoco. The prices seem more than reasonable.

Hmm I cannot subscribe to this thread for some reason. Oh well, I'll just butt in...

Lou Malnati's (chicago style pizza) and Portillo's (italian beefs, hot dogs, cheese fries...) are a must. Must. Must.

Giordanno's Pizza has a spot a block from the hotel. We ate there ALOT last time. I'm also contemplating a road trip to my hometown for some Hillary's Ribs (smack yo mama-good).

Pizza-Dogs-Ribs, BW. Save the Mexican food for another HOW Conf site. [;)]
You, how much for your wife? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Ok. so I am THE MAN for food in Chicago. :P
And if you want good food, you have to travel away from the area you are staying at- explore the city, its really not that big.
Most of these links are pretty close, walkable for sure. Its nice in Chicago then, you walk to everything in the city. Dont be a wuss.
This should be enough to get you started, if you want more...hit me up.

Lets get the basics out of the way- gotta cover the bases here. Note; ALL stuffed pizza originated out of UNO.

Pizza - depends on taste if you like stufft, pan or thin...

Uno - the originator to some extent

Lou Malnottis - Chicago Fav butter crust
http://www.yelp.com/biz/lou-malnatis-pizzeria-chicago-6

Pizanos - other Malnottis brother

Giordanos - do NOT get thin crust here.

Ginos East - cornmeal crust
http://www.yelp.com/biz/ginos-east-chicago-3

Piece - great thin style!

Italian Beef and Hot dogs - no joke

Portillos - yes. Everything is great there. Hilights- Chicago Style Hot dog. Cake Shake. Beef/Sausage Combo with mozz cheese with sweet/hot peppers. You might die, but its worth it.

Als Beef

Mexican, Street Food

XOCO- is really good. Rick Bayless. Not for everyone though- you have to like flavor. The Caldos and Sandwiches are a no brainer. June might be hot for soup. There are times when the line is out the door- its been open a while and the buzz is past, its just that good. Get coffee and churros or I will slap you.

Sushi - depends on your taste of more traditional, or fusion.

Rise on southport is really good.

Kyoto on Lincoln has some REALLY creative dishes.

Sushi Samba on Grand is a cool place that combines Sushi and Cuban flavors.

If anyone likes good, original, creative breakfast, take a little walk to Orange http://www.orangerestaurantchicago.com/Main.html I think the closest one will be at Clark and Superior - next to Blue Chicago. Well worth the walk. Let me know if you're interested in going. I'll have a hard time staying away most mornings as they're only in Chicago, and I'm addicted.
