SEO: Local Targeting Strategy

Postby Createit » January 29th, 2009, 2:23 am

Hello everyone,

I know everyone is concerned with "how to do local SEO" or get ranked on GEO targeted SERPs. Here are few important points to consider:

- Get back links from websites which are locally hosted (endorsement from local sites)
- Get your own website locally hosted
- Get local keywords on your website
- Domain extension ".co.uk" or ".ca" etc
- GEO target in Google WMTools section

The main reason being that search engines clearly understand where your webserver IP is coming from. This is called serving SERPs targeted to local users. For example, if you go to Google.fr and search for "microsoft" you wil get results in FRENCH and microsoft france. There are more examples. Your job is to get search engines believe that your site is locally targeted.

Submissions to local listing is fine but it would be more worthy if those sites are hosted locally.

Cheers

I think it depends on the kind of business you're talking about. I guess it also depends on the language of the website and of the "keywords" typed on the search engine. Anyways the goal of an entrepreneur would be to appear in the first place of rankings in general engines

Although I do agree with these methods of adding Local SEO there are more methods for improving local SEO such as having a local website linking back to you and by using micro-data tags. If the local website linking back to you also uses micro-data tags it will help you and them as well, so encourage them to do so!

Log into your webmaster tools from google, http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/, if you haven't already you need to register your site with them. It offers tons of useful information, but to set your location, log into your site inside of webmaster tools, then go to configuration, and settings.

I'm confused.
I thought local SEO was about using Google+ Local and getting good reviews from reputable review sites?
