Feeling a Disconnect

Postby Shinzart » June 12th, 2012, 4:45 pm

I started my career in Graphic Design a little over 2 years ago after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts with Honors from the Art Institute of Charleston. I'm looking to expand my career and take myself up north closer to my home town however all my attempts to apply for positions up there (particularly Boston) have met with absolutely no response. When showing my work to my peers or creative professionals that I know personally they only point out the good. Obviously it can't be that good if I haven't gotten a single call back. So I need some real feedback that will help me further myself and land the job that I want. Looking for something with a creative firm or design agency where I can work with like minded people in an relaxed atmosphere that fosters creativity but still sets clear goals.

My work can be seen at http://www.behance.net/shinzart

You can download my résumé here at http://kvisit.com/S9p38AQ

You're feedback would be greatly appreciated. To be honest all of this rejection has got me feeling a bit rejected so I need to gain some perspective so that I can change what I'm doing and get it right.

Thank in advance.

I think a lot of freelance artists are in the same boat. Most of them have bachelors degrees and have trouble finding high paying relaxed gigs. You seem to have a good resume so finding work shouldn't be difficult, it just takes a lot of time.

The market is very competitive and unfortunately a degree isn't what it used to be. Hold out for the job you want and remember that taking some time off doesn't hurt. You will find the right job you just have to be patient.

Good luck!
