Logos in a sentence

Postby OldHouseDesign » August 4th, 2010, 11:32 am

ok, got a new job and my coworkers all are very much into using logos in sentences (like the stories you may have read as a kid where the word cat was replaced by a picture of a cat.)

Its making me a little koo-koo - I try really hard to *** them in understanding that a logo is a picture even if it has words in it and they just dont get it - look at me like Im purple

Have any of you successfully helped persuade your colleagues to think correctly and not use logos in lieu of words ?

Depending on the company that the logo is for, they may have rules:

I was just looking up Facebook's logo usage for a client who wanted to use the fb logo instead of the word in a sentence. Facebook's rules specifically state that "Facebook should be in the same font size and style as the other content."

I'm a bit concerned about how your are talking about your situation. Are you being forced to use logos as words? Your coworkers all think one way and you think another. It is not alway your place to tell them that they are incorrect. Don't go into a new job and worry about persuading everyone that you are right and they are wrong.

You are the new guy...if they are looking at you "Like your are purple" maybe it's because you are not giving them respect. Maybe everyone else thinks differently than you. Even if you don't respect them as designers, don't tell them! When you are the boss, you can tell everyone what's what.

I'm an athiest. I don't base my like based on the belief in supernatural beings like a god. How do I persuade my friends to stop going to church? I don't. I like having friends.

Sounds like you have some solid design standards. Just go out there and do great work and get along with your coworkers. You can tell them that you wouldn't use logos as words, but don't try to persuade them that they are wrong.

Good luck.

A logo should be the personification of your company identity.
