Buy MAC or PC?

Postby orachelo » August 25th, 2006, 3:14 am

Hello,

I'm new to the graphic design world (mostly print work) and have, just recently, started doing it professionally.

I'm on the market to purchase a new computer and I'm wondering whether to go for a MAC or a PC?
I've always used a PC, but most professional designers I know prefer MACs and I'm sure converting to a MAC won't be that difficult.

But when it comes to design, is MAC really better?  Anyone have any insight as to which direction to head?

Thanks!

Asking this question will never get you a decent answer anywhere. its all about personal preference and what you like. Id suggest try both out and decide for yourself. Some people are die hard PC, some are die hard Mac, and some go either way. Which one is better will depend on who is answering the question.

Adobe suites are pretty much the same either way minus a few differences that mostly have to do with a different keyboard setup.

Having a mac isn't going to make the design look any better...

Seems a moot point now. Buy a MacPro and install Bootcamp and WinXP :)

Here's a little guide that might help ease the transition if you do switch

I've always used a PC in my home business, and a Mac when I help out designing ads at the local paper. The PC is fine *except* when I get files (magazine ads, for example) that were built on a Mac. Without the suffix like .qxd or .ai, my PC has no clue what type of file it is. Since most designers seem to use Macs, I'd suggest getting a Mac just to avoid this issue.

/would get a Mac if I could afford it right now

i use 'em both... the biggest advantage of buying a mac is usability and virtually hassle-free work. mac is not much more expensive than the equal brand PC box.

I find both to work great.. i lean towards the MAC because i feel i can get on do my work do my life and get off and not have to worry about all the little pc quirks but then again i have been on MAC for 10 years...plus i love the way the MAC looks the design is hot and looks great in my studio...

pc has some great computers out there that you can really customize for your business.

i just like the MAC. -my2cents. -jeffg
