A Plight to the Surface

As I type, the 20th miner (Darios Segovia) is being lifted from the depths of the Chilean mine via the capsule with a 22-inch diameter. The ride up 2,000 feet takes about 15 minutes, which I’m sure seems like an infinity to the brave passenger.

Although we sit far removed from the rescue, and can offer only support, this image by Nicholas Nawroth captured my attention.

Nawroth says he was moved by the miners’ plight, and created this image to show support of their rescue. Since early September, Nawroth has used his image as his facebook profile picture and said he wouldn’t take it down until the men had been brought to the surface safely. Let’s hope this will be accomplished by tomorrow.
