Here’s what’s happening in the design industry this week:
Kapitza announced “Tape,” a new pattern font consisting of 52 distinctive illustrations created with torn and stuck together packaging tape. It was inspired by their fascination with irregular arrangements and shapes found in nature and in man-made structures. It’s the second release in Kapitza’s organic font series with more to follow.
The deadline for Neenah Paper’s Un Show competition has been extended to March 30. Enter your favorite uncoated paper projects for a chance to be featured in HOW magazine. Winners will also receive cash prizes. Best of Show will win $1,000 and a HOW Design Conference Pass.
The School of Visual Arts is offering a Masters Workshop called Design History, Theory and Practice in Rome, Italy, May 27 through June 10. From tours of Ostia Antica and historic Rome with Dr. Darius Arya, workshops on handlettering and Roman inscriptions with Mauro Zennaro and James Clough, explorations of Italian vernacular typography with Louise Fili, and lectures on contemporary Italian design with Cristina Chiappini, Mario Fois and Mario Rullo, the Masters Workshop will energize your design.
Appleton Coated introduced Utopia Inkjet Gloss for use on the HP Inkjet Web Press family, touting that it’s excellent for high-end publishing and direct mail projects.
Digital Arts Zone is giving away its popular 3D software, including DAZ Studio 4 Pro, Bryce 7 Pro and Hexagon 2.5, for free through March 31.
