Sappi Fine Paper and Worldstudio have teamed up to host a series of workshops called Funding Social Change that helps designers pitch their socially minded projects to potential benefactors. The first workshop is April 30 at Portfolio Center in Atlanta, followed by events in Chicago at IIT/Institute of Design on May 20 and at the School of Visual Arts in NYC on May 26.
Celebrity judges like Richard Branson, Philippe Starck, Diane von
Furstenberg and David DeRothchild will be evaluating entries in The Earth Awards,
which recognizes design innovations that support sustainability. Entry
categories include Built Environment, Fashion, Products and Systems,
among others, and entries must meet criteria such as scalability,
originality and achievability. A grand prize of $50,000 will be
awarded, and category winners receive $10,000. Entries are being
accepted through May 10.
