Shepard Fairey is installing murals all around Cincinnati, and yesterday a blank wall got hit just a mile from HOW headquarters. The murals are part of his solo exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, which runs until August 22. He’s also in town to DJ the CAC’s street party fundraiser on 5/22, The Event, which will be in the alley next to the center.
After our team outing to see the exhibit downtown last month, it’s exciting to have Fairey’s art sprucing up blank walls a little further out from the city center. We stopped by after work to snap some shots of the work in progress. It was cool to see the wheat paste being slapped up on the building and the team going up and down the ladder to get each piece perfectly aligned. Fairey was friendly and personable, chatting with onlookers and handing out stickers.
The mural is one of the tallest he’s done, according to Molly O’Toole of the CAC. It’s called Israel/Palestine Women Writing, a tribute to the building it appears on, which houses the Women Writing For (a) Change organization.
