HOW’s May issue includes a gallery of design projects where a creative use of paper and interesting folding techniques made all the difference. As clients have tighter budgets and designers become more conscious of creating printed pieces with purpose, folding and other production tricks (letterpress printing, personalization, just the right paper stock) help keep these projects in consumers’ hands and out of the trash.
We worked with Trish Witkowski, chief folding fanatic at FoldFactory.com, to dissect these projects and offer tips on making the folds work. Trish created video demos of each of the 10 projects featured in the magazine to show how the projects unfold, unwrap and unveil. Here’s a peek at some of the work:
Project: DVice2 Creative Team: Gouthier Design (now With Creative), Danny Clinch photography, Digital Color Concepts
Fold: Extended accordion fold
Project: Kimball Office Furniture Villa Lounge promotion Creative Team: Miller Brooks, Lake County Press
Fold: Traveling snake fold
Project: Naughty But Nice Creative Team: Kevin Steele
