Good News For 2011 Art School Grads

A new national survey of businesses’ hiring plans for 2011, commissioned by the Academy of Art University and released today, offers a promising outlook for this year’s college graduates: three in four companies plan to hire new grads, and 23% will hire more than last year. Only 12% will hire fewer recent graduates.

The survey will be released at the Academy’s annual Spring Show, where hundreds of employer representatives gather on campus to review portfolios and meet with students about potential job opportunities. Executives from some of the world’s most innovative companies will be participating the 2011 Spring Show, including Zynga, American Greetings, Cartoon Network, Pixar, Apple, LucasFilm, Dreamworks and Electronic Arts.

Findings from the economic survey include:

• Three of four companies are planning to hire new graduates in the coming year, and 23% plan to hire more than last year.

• 17% of employers say they will hire more than 10 people, and only 12% of companies say they will hire fewer recent graduates this year than last.

• Employers from all regions of the nation plan to hire new graduates: 77% in the South, 76% in the West, 72% in the Northeast, and 70% in the Midwest.
