HOWie Zine: A Creative Playground

For several years now, the design community on the HOW Forum has been collaborating periodically on a project they call the HOWie Zine. It’s a client-free, back-to-the-drawing-board creative exercise. The premise is simple: the group votes on a theme, designers raise their hands to participate, and then they create pages (each edition is 7 in. square) for a hand-bound volume. Designer Patti Bachelder initially got the ball rolling, and since then, other Forum die-hards have stepped up to help shepherd the process and keep the project going. They’re on Volume 10—and now they’ve created a website that features a gallery of past zines. Check it out here, and play along if you’re interested.
