Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and GE are hosting the “Why Design Now? Solving Global Challenges” conference Friday, Oct. 1, at Lincoln Center in New York City. The daylong event will explore the role of design in solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
The conference, held in conjunction with Cooper-Hewitt’s exhibit of the same title, is free; advance registration is required at the museum’s website.

Corbis Images recently released a report and companion image collection called The Human Touch. The stock company’s research shows a growing visual trend focused on human relationships as an antidote to the high-tech world we live in. The report is available for download.

Mexico City design group Círculo de Tipógrafos have released a new font called Balduina, exclusively available through FontShop.com. The font is modeled on the work of Dutch designer and lettering artist Boudewijn Ietswaart. Read more about the history of the typeface and view samples here.
Mohawk Fine Paper released a new promo designed by Chicago-based design firm VSA Partners called “Mode of Transformation.” The piece celebrates the bicycle and demonstrates Mohawk Superfine paper.
