From September 18 to 22, the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) will bring together those interested in film, cartoons, animation and art. Animation might not be your thing, but the”Get in Touch with Your Inner Child” poster designs, as part of the campaign to promote the film festival, might make you bust out some crayons and juice boxes. Or at least make you smile on a Monday.
The campaign was created by McMillan, and the 5 posters take a fun approach to capturing the spirit of the film festival. The poster illustrator, Michael Zavacky from McMillan, says that animation “appeals to the inner child in all of us.” Zavacky explains the campaign:
We knew that simple promise of connecting with your inner child wouldn’t fully communicate the experience of the festival and its unique, edgy and entertaining programming. So we decided to push it.
Our twist was to promise that, at the festival, you’ll be able to get in touch with your inner child — and do things with it that you were never allowed to do as a child. To counterpoint the sometimes dark messages — and to allay our client’s fears about the proposed direction — we chose to create cute, cuddly monsters to interact with each ‘inner child,’ and illustrate the whole campaign in a colorful, fun style.
OIAF is the largest festival of its kind in North America and even includes the opportunity to pitch ideas to industry professional. It’s organized and judged by international, well-respected animators and Oscar winners. The attendees may not be rushing into traffic, but film festivals and fun designs always renew a bit of wonder.
