You can now get your hands on a new serif font collection from Commercial Type. This font has shown its pretty face in “Document Journal,” a New York-based fashion and arts magazine, and in “Wallpaper,” a British interiors and style magazine. Fancy, right? Commercial Type‘s recent release, the Portrait fonts collection, includes 4 serif type families (Portrait, Portrait Text, Portrait Condensed and Portrait Inline) and 29 total styles. Each type family is also available for desktop, web and mobile apps.
Portrait was described by Commercial Type as:
The marriage of classical proportions with triangular Latin serifs is an inspired combination, and a fresh way to see these nearly 500-year-old forms.
Designed by Berton Hasebe, an independent type designer based in New York, Portrait is one among his many custom typefaces and lettering work. He explains the inspiration for each family in detail, pulling inspiration from woodcuts, the Rennaissance and French design. According to Commercial Type, Portrait finds inspiration in the “Two-line Double Pica Roman” and the Renaissance. Portrait Text is a bit cleaner, but also pulls inspiration from the 1500s, and Portrait Condensed was influenced by Renaissance French typefaces. Finally, Portrait Inline is the most decorative of the collection. They might be the perfect fit for your project.
