Skipping Forward

I know—it’s September, and I’m already posting about 2011 calendar designs. If the retail world can drag out artificial trees and deck the halls for a quarter of the year, then I think we can all agree to let this one slip.

In the February 2010 issue of HOW, I wrote about six creatives embracing hand drawn type and collage styles. Susan Black was one of the designers whose tactile style caught our eye.

In a tiny village by the Nova Scotia seaside lives designer Susan Black. Amid the salty ocean breeze, she finds inspiration for hand lettering all around her—words, images, songs, quotes, countless creative blogs, design style and history, typography and illustration from the ’50s, ’60s and 70s, and oceanside walks with one of her beloved dogs, Winnie Dixon.

Check out this collage 2011 poster calendar from Black with red individually hand-stamped accents.
