Type City

Type is beautiful and so is architecture, so what do you get when you combine the two?

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame made of DF Shenzhen Industrial, or the Cleveland Museum of Art constructed of Monotype Italian Old Style (bold Italic).

Type City Cleveland challenges communication design students at the Cleveland Institute of Art to choose a Cleveland venue, a typeface that represents the atmosphere, mood and overall feel, and then create a rendering using the characters from the chosen typeface. This started as a class project by adjunct professor Chris Ramsay in 2007 and continues to be a class favorite. Renderings are then judged by creative professionals.

Chris, you rock! Congrats on getting this into HOW. You are a great teacher and the students are lucky to have a teacher who is also a working professional.

Thank you for the kind words. I can’t wait to see what this year’s crop of designers do. They have already chosen their venues and typefaces, and started their initial builds. By this coming Thursday, they should be 50% complete with their rendering.
