In-house Interpersonal: Adapt and Grow

Flexibility = Confidence?

In my last post, I wrote about ways to exercise the muscle that is self confidence. Several in house designers agreed with my suggestion that in tough times especially, it’s important to look outside of work for creative satisfaction in order to keep your confidence intact.

In their comments, some designers referred to “when things come back” or return to normal and another quote came to mind: “We never bathe twice in the same river.” To me that means we must always be looking ahead to see what changes are coming down the pike (and they’re coming faster and faster these days, aren’t they?). How will you need to adjust to those changes? How will you transform yourself into whatever the workplace or the world needs you to be or do next?

This inspires confidence in me: the ability to change, the flexibility to adjust, the clarity to see what’s ahead, no matter what my current situation. If I focus today on simply doing better than I did yesterday, striving toward excellence in all I do, then confidence is almost a by-product of that effort. At least that is my experience. What do you think?
