INside Track: Run For Your Life

It had been a really hard day – dozens of emails clamoring for action, back-to-back meetings, a self-replicating to-do list. At 5PM with the prospect of more hours to log  in, I was wearily trudging back to my office from the bathroom where I had doused my face with water when I was startled by an unexpected sight.

Two guys were running down the long, now empty, hallway, laughing, arms waving and hair flying. One man was pushing a large cart with some kind of equipment on it, the other was just scrambling behind for the heck of it.

At first I thought it was a couple of kids from Facilities goofing around but then, with a smile, I realized they were actually a manager and a designer from the creative team I was working with. “What bozos!”, I thought as a bounce started to creep back into my step.

I went over to where they had stopped and razzed them as they laughed some more and caught their breath. I went back to work a bit more alive than just a few minutes before.

I realized that it would never even have occurred to 95% of the people working in our building to go scrambling wildly down the corridor simply for the fun of it. About 4% would consider it but be too afraid to attempt it. It is the 1%, the in-house team, who are just crazy enough to actually do it. God I love creatives.
