Agencies and design firms certainly have a place in providing design and marketing services to companies. But (as they say in the business world) at the end of the day, the in-house designers are the ones who have made a full-time commitment to their companies. They are the ones who are in it for the long haul and are there for the heavy lifting.

Seth Godin, in a recent post titled “The professional’s platform”, extols the virtues and business advantages of investing in long-term relationships, something that internal creative teams do every day.  The flip side of this is a less engaged partnership which, he notes, results in diminished trust and superficial relationships.

It doesn’t matter how good an outside vendor is and how committed they are to their client’s business, their own business will always be their priority. For in-house designers, their host company’s business will always be their priority, guaranteeing they’ll always have their company’s best interests at heart.
