After 18 years of working at Disney, Anne Sweeney has reportedly decided to “… step out of the comfort zone of the executive ranks and more directly into the creative arena …” and pursue her passion for learning the art of directing. Sweeney’s new career goal is to become a television director. “If not now, when?”
I don’t know about you, but sans all the unknown politics behind this decision, I believe Sweeney’s move to step outside her comfort zone is quite inspiring for anyone at any age who desires to be more creative.
Sweeney was featured in a Fast Company article titled “Every Child is an Artist” and said of being a great leader:
- Show up.
- Hold everyone accountable for each other.
- Communicate as a person, not simply as a boss.
Another great quote from the television group president of Disney/ABC, Sweeney: “We are stapled together. We live and die by each other’s successes and failures.”
What characteristics do you think make a great leader?
