Adobe today unveiled a promised update for Illustrator CS6, adding the ability to unembed images and package files into a single folder containing linked text and graphics. The update also provides enhancements to Illustrator’s Links panel.
As I noted last week, these updates will be available only to users who use the software via Adobe’s Creative Cloud service. Users who purchased a conventional software license will have to wait for next year’s full upgrade of the Creative Suite.
The membership, which costs $49.99 per month, entitles you to fully functional versions of all Creative Suite applications plus numerous extras. Under an introductory offer, Adobe customers who have Creative Suite application from CS3 or later can get the first year for $29.99 per month. That deal is good until this Friday, Aug. 31. You can find more info in the press release.
In other news from Adobe, the company is offering pre-release versions of Lightroom 4.2 and Camera Raw 7.2 on the Adobe Labs website. In addition to bug fixes, the updates add RAW file support for new cameras from Canon, Fuji, Leaf, Nikon, Panasonic, Pentax and Sony.
