I’ve been asked by clients before to create gateways that force a user to surrender some information before entering. Usually, forced registration is an epic fail. But two things make Jetsetter.com’s forced registration viable. First, the signup is overlaid on the site in a way that gives you a preview of what lies beneath. Second, the product is interesting enough that you want to find out more and will sign up to see what’s inside. The quality of the site lends it a sense of credibility. The end result is a gatekeeper that works. Replicate this approach with extreme caution.
