I recently read an article on A List Apart about the rise of Symbol Fonts. A few minutes later, I stumbled upon this gem of a site. Kojo is a great example of the use of symbol fonts, not to mention a demonstration of the pure simplicity a website design can have. The video background is borderline obnoxious, yet it works remarkably well with the simple icon-based navigation. The whole thing is a bit of a flashback to splash pages, full screen Flash movies and the web of a decade ago. But that’s what I love about the web: We can merge new ideas with classic ones to find refreshing and fun new design approaches. This is a “love-it-or-hate-it” example of website design—and I love it.
