With the popularity of one-page websites these days, you might think the trend’s a bit overdone. Especially when it comes to parallax—where everything zips and zooms around the page as you scroll (I imagine that makes me sound like an old curmudgeon). Today’s SOTD is one of those ubiquitous one-page websites, and it’s a great one. The site is a “coming soon” promo for Mosaic, a sweet little iPhone app that lets you create and order custom printed photobooks on the fly from your phone.
What I appreciate here is the designers skipped the parallax trick and instead incorporated some simple animations. As you scroll the page for the first time, the content appears to unfold before your eyes. This keeps you reading and compels you to finish the page. It’s an incredibly powerful way to drive people to consume all of the content. More and more, I find that I’m drawn to simplicity and restraint in web design. Well done, Mosaic.
