There are many visual trends that don’t often get mentioned because they’re so simple. In this amazing site’s case, I hate to call out such a mundane element, but here goes…
The trend of placing stark contrast of white text over photographs is off-the-charts hot right now. I have a list of sites I am writing site-of-the-day features for, and this pattern shows up over and over. Personally, I find this pattern problematic as often the text is hard to read. But there are times it can really work well. In this case, the larger text is all you really need. The sub text isn’t critical, and if you bother to read it you’ll be hooked. Next thing you know, you will be digging through the site. There’s so much to love about this site, I suggest you click through and check it out.
